Project Spartan Get's a Name, Meet Microsoft Edge

Internet Explorer has long been the runt of the the litter of browsers that we have today, simply being behind the others in terms of it's feature set. Today Microsoft's new internet browser, codenamed "Project Spartan", has been officially revealed and will be called Microsoft Edge.

This new browser cuts down a lot of it's Internet Explorer lineage and brings the browser up to date with the addition of HTML and Javascript extension support, allowing existing Chrome and Firefox extensions to be easily ported to the new browser. Cortana will also be integrated into this new browser, so that you can seamlessly use Microsoft's personal assistant online.

Below is Microsoft's video highlights for the new browser.

"Microsoft Edge is the all-new Windows 10 browser built to give you a better web experience. Write directly on webpages and share your mark-ups with others. Read online articles free of distraction or use the offline reading feature for greater convenience. Microsoft Edge is the new browser that works the way you do."

It will be interesting to see if Microsoft's Edge Browser will be able to get them back into the realm of top-tier browsers, though right now it is going to be a difficult feat to get a person like myself off of the Google Chrome Ecosystem.

Microsoft's Edge Browser will launch later this year with Windows 10, but for now you can try it out inside the latest builds of Windows 10 preview.

I was hoping it stayed Spartan.. honestly the amount of logo's that could have gone to that name..

I'll try this out for sure. If i like it and it actually is secured unlike IE then i'll continue to use it. Otherwise i'll stick to Chrome.Quote
