PS4 Emulator ShadPS4 can now boot Red Dead Redemption on PC

ShadPS4 can now boot Red Dead Redemption and play One Piece Unlimited World Red on PC

PlayStation 4 emulation is improving at a rapid pace. Last week, we reported on Bloodborne becoming bootable using the shadPS4 emulator. Now, ShadPS4 can also boot the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption. Beyond that, One Piece Unlimited World Red can now enter gameplay on the emulator, though the game is by no means “playable”.

ShadPS4 is quickly becoming one of the most advanced PlayStation 4 emulators available. Many 3D games are now bootable using the emulator. While major visual and audio issues are common, the fact that these games run at all is a major achievement. Having a 3D game like One Piece Unlimited World Red actually run is also a huge achievement.

Sadly, it will likely take years before these PlayStation 4 games becoming fully playable through emulation on PC, be it using shadPS4 or another emulator. Even so, it is clear that progress is being made. Below, you can see how Red Dead Redemption and One Piece Unlimited World Red run through emulation. This video comes from GAMER RPCS3 on YouTube.

References to an official PC version of Red Dead Redemption have recently appeared on Rockstar’s game launcher. This suggests that Red Dead Redemption will be coming to PC at some point in the future. This means that the game may soon be playable on PC without emulation, which will be a big deal for fans of the franchise.
