Psyonix is working on Rocket League Cross-Platform party support

Cross-platform party support is 'actively' being worked on

One of Rocket League's biggest problems is its implementation of cross-platform support, lacking the ability to create cross-platform parties despite the fact that the game can be played together by PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch users at the same time.

Right now Sony has forced Psyonix to disable cross-platform play between PS4 and other console platforms, with only PC-PS4 cross-play being possible. PC-Xbox One-Switch Cross-platform play is also possible, with PS4 being locked out of games with Switch and Xbox One players.

Psyonix has stated that they are now working on enabling cross-platform party support, saying that the feature is "actively" worked on with a likely release this year. At this time it is unknown what platforms will support this feature and what restrictions will be in place with this new update.

Today the only way to ensure that specific console and PC players can queue together is to create a private match where only your friends have the password to enter. These games can be played against AI or with players on both sides, though this solution is far from ideal.

Psyonix has not been clear about how long it will take for this feature to be rolled out, though it will allow cross-platform play to become a much more useful feature. Right now it is mostly a method that ensures that online matches are quickly an easily found, rather than enable cross-platform team play between friends.

"with only PC-PS4 cross-play being possible." This sentence is one massive error. PC-PS4 play specifically isn't possible.
PC-Switch-Xbone play IS possible (In any combination) and works pretty well.Quote

Read the sentence before that. "game can be played together by PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch users at the same time."

The sentence you quoted was after that and talks about the fact that PS4 on only playable with other PS4s and PCs. I have added some extra text to the article to avoid any further confusion.Quote
