What seems clear is that the combination of Avalanche Studios and id Software is a force to be reckoned with, though more than a few people instantly thought that the gameplay shown offered clear hallmarks of id Software’s id Tech 6 engine. As it turns out, this is not the case.Â
Avalanche Studios’ Founder, Christofer Sundberg has confirmed that RAGE 2 will be built using the studio’s APEX game engine, an iteration of which delivered the gaming classic Just Cause 2.Â
What remains unclear is what kind of impact id Software will have on the game, as RAGE 2 looks a lot better than any game that currently exists on the Avalanche APEX engine. This fact has also lead many to believe that RAGE 2 will target a framerate of 30FPS on consoles, just like Avalanche’s last two games, Mad Max and Just Cause 3.Â

RAGE 2 is set to release in early 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC, hopefully combining the talents of the open world gurus at Avalanche with the FPS kings at id Software to create a compelling gaming experience that can also prove to be a graphical powerhouse with stable performance on all platforms.Â
