Ray tracing Required! – Indiana Jones truly needs modern PC hardware
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is one of the first PC games to require ray tracing
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming to PC on December 9th, with early access starting on December 6th for premium edition buyers. On PC, this game will be one of the first AAA releases to launch with “hardware ray tracing” as a requirement, which is almost unheard of.
Today, Machine Games and Bethesda released their official PC system requirements for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. All sets of system requirements target 60 FPS gameplay. Note that Machine Games feels that their new first-person adventure game looks and plays best at 60 FPS or higher. Even the game’s Xbox versions will run at 60 FPS.
Note that The Great Circle is an Nvidia-branded title on PC. It is currently bundled with GeForce RTX hardware and enhanced with “Full Ray Tracing.” On PC, the game will support modern upscaling technologies like FSR and DLSS. This includes support for Frame Generation.
High Hardware requirements for Indiana Jones’ PC outing
For 1080p 60 FPS gameplay (native) at low settings, a GPU like AMD’s RX 6600, Nvidia’s RTX 2060 SUPER, or Intel’s ARC A580 is required. For 1440p 60 FPS (native) gameplay at High settings, Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti and AMD’s RX 7700 XT are recommended. To run the game at 4K (Native) Ultra settings at 60 FPS, Nvidia’s RTX 4080 and AMD’s RX 7900 XT are recommended. Note that 32GB of system memory and 120GB of SSD storage is recommended.
When “Full Ray Tracing” is enabled, Indiana Jones’ hardware requirements shoot up. For “Full ray tracing” at 4K, Nvidia’s RTX 4090 is recommended. However, upscaling and frame generation are required to achieve a 60 FPS target with this hardware. Furthermore, the game calls for an Intel Core i7-13900K CPU or AMD Ryzen 7 7900X for “Ultra” gameplay.
Thankfully, this game’s PC system requirements aren’t overly high when PC gamers avoid “full ray tracing”. While the game will look better with these settings enabled, the hardware requirements are absurdly high. Most gamers would likely be better off disabling full tray tracing and enjoying the game at a higher framerate.
