Remedy Showcases Raytraced Features in New Control Gameplay

At GDC 2019, Remedy has released a work-in-progress demo for Control, a 3rd-person action-adventure game which is set to launch in later  Summer 2019.

This demo showcases several raytraced effects on an Nvidia RTX graphics card, utilising glossy ray-traced reflections, ray-traced diffuse global illumination and ray-traced contact shadows, making this game the widest use of ray tracing in any game to date. Today, Battlefield V only uses DXR ray tracing for real-time reflections, and Metro Exodus only uses ray tracing for global illumination, but in COntrol, three ray-traced effects are in use.

The demo is available to view below and is available to view at a resolution of 1080p, making it seem likely that this game will be incredibly demanding with RTX effects enabled. That said, this is an early build of the game and likely has plenty of room for additional optimisation before launch.

Check out this exclusive early WIP (work-in-progress) real-time ray tracing demo of Control on PC. Powered by GeForce RTX, part of the GDC 2019 showcase. In this video you can see examples of various real-time ray tracing techniques such as Ray Traced Indirect Diffuse, Ray Traced Indirect Specular and Ray Traced Contact Shadows.

To run this demo, Remedy and Nvidia only states that it is "powered by Geforce RTX", failing to specify what hardware is required to run the game at 1080p with ray tracing enabled.
