Sackboy: A Big Adventure receives a huge boost with DLSS 3 and SER support

Sackboy: A Big Adventure becomes one of the first games to support Nvidia’s Shader Execution Reordering feature

A new patch has just landed for Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and it is a big deal for RTX 40 series GPU owners. Not only has the game been updated to support DLSS 3, adding Nvidia’s DLSS Frame Generation feature to the game alongside Nvidia Reflex, but it has also added Nvidia’s RTX 40 series Shader Execution Reordering feature, delivering additional performance benefits.

What is DLSS 3?

DLSS 3 brings together three technologies, DLSS Super Resolution (also known as DLSS 2), which uses AI to upscale lower resolution game renders to higher resolutions, DLSS Frame Generation, an RTX 40 series feature that uses AI to generate intermediate frames in between traditionally rendered ones, effectively giving games a 2x increase in framerate and motion clarity, and Nvidia Reflex, a input latency reducing technology that allows games to feel more responsive.

With DLSS 3, gamers can benefit from DLSS Frame Generation and DLSS Super Resolution to achieve incredible performance gains, making high resolution, high framerate gaming a lot easier on RTX 40 series graphics hardware.

What about Shader Execution Re-ordering (SER)?

Shader Execution Re-ordering (SER) is an RTX 40 (Ada) series feature that allows supported graphics cards to increase GPU throughput by simultaneously reducing both execution divergence and data divergence. In simpler terms, SER is a new scheduling technology that re-orders GPU threads on-the-fly to ensure that groups of threads are completing similar tasks to ensure that GPU resources are used most effectively.

Nvidia has stated that this feature is expected to increase framerates by up to 25% in supported games, though larger performance gains are possible when doing certain tasks. With SER, Nvidia’s latest GPUs run more efficiently, allowing them to achieve higher levels of performance, though the downside is that developers need to add SER support to their games, giving them additional work to do that only benefits Nvidia GPU users.
