In recent weeks the world of Torrenting and Piracy has been very turbulent, with the closure of Kickass Torrents after the owner's arrest by US officials, the recent closure of the Torrentz meta-search engine and the recent cracks on Denuvo's popular DRM technology.

Now online scammers have started taking over popular Kickass Torrents domains, asking users to register and give credit card information in order to gain access to downloads. This is a scheme in order to steal the credit card information of pirates, hoping to use the reputation of Kickass torrents to trick users into giving away valuable information.

At OC3D we do not condone the use of torrenting sites like this, though anyone who uses these kinds of sites should be cautious moving forward to protect themselves from identity theft.

Scams like this have existed almost as long as torrents themselves, though with the recent demise of Kickass Torrents and other popular torrenting websites a lot of scammers a taking advantage of the confusion in order to steal from the former users of these now dead websites.
