Sony confirms that they will be working with Nixxes Software on new PlayStation-to-PC ports

At the start of this month, Sony acquired Nixxes, a studio that specialises in porting games to additional platforms. Recent examples include Marvel's Avengers, the modern Tomb Raider Trilogy and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

In a new interview with Famitsu, Sony's Jim Ryan has confirmed that PlayStation will be working with Nixxes to create PC versions of many popular PlayStation titles.

Recent ports of PlayStation titles like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Day's Gone have proven popular on PC, prompting Sony to invest further into more PlayStation-to-PC conversion. In a recent financial presentation, Sony has confirmed that a PC version of Uncharted 4, A Thief's End is in the works, and more games are undoubtedly on the horizon.

We are also happy with our efforts to provide our IP to PCs, although it is still in its infancy, and we look forward to working with Nixxes to help with that.

While Nixxes' proficiency in creating PC ports was always seen as the main reason behind the studio's acquisition by Sony, Jim Ryan's latest statements confirm this reasoning.

Right now, Sony's business strategy is to release its games first on PlayStation consoles and launch PC versions later, prioritising their console users. PC gamers will be getting access to a lot of new Sony content over the next few years, but PC gamers shouldn't be expecting any new PlayStation games to arrive on PC at the same time as PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. PC is an avenue for Sony to give its IP a second life and another avenue for profits. PlayStation's core focus will remain on the console market, at least for now.

If we consider that consoles are usually sold at a loss in order to push the sale of games, then it becomes obvious that Sony will release all of their exclusives to PC. Perhaps not on launch day, but eventually.Quote
