Square Enix has confirmed that a new Tomb Raider Game is in the works

It is official, Square Enix isÂ creating a new Tomb Raider game, though sadly this announcement came with no real information about the title, lacking official screenshots, gameplay or even a briefÂ outline of the game’s plot.Â

All that Square Enix states is that the game will be officially unveiled at a “major event in 2018” and that it “won’t be very long between the official reveal and when you can play”, which suggests that the game has almost finished development. This announcement also suggests that the game will not be a “timed exclusive” like its predecessor, Rise of the Tomb Raider.Â

Previous leaks and rumours have stated that a game called Shadow of the Tomb Raider is in development, rumours which are supported by Square Enix’s statement. The eagle-eyedÂ amongst you will notice that the first letter of every sentence in this reveals speels the word Shadow, which is likely to be a subtle hint regarding the game’s final name.Â

Even details like the game’s developer cannot be assumed at this time, as while Crystal Dynamics did create both TombÂ Raider (Reboot) and Rise of the Tomb Raider, the developer is already known to be working on another project for Square Enix. an upcoming Marvel Avengers series game.

While it could be possible that Crystal Dynamics is currently working on both projects, it is equally likely that Square Enix has given this title to a different developer, which could lead to some interestingÂ changes to the Tomb Raider formula.Â
