Earlier this year a developer called West Games launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for a game called Areal, a game which claimed to be the definitive spiritual successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. This project was later suspended on Kickstarter after accusations from missing assets to simple fraud claims as the Devs only wanted $50,000 to complete the project.
Now the project has appeared again, this time on World Wide Funder under the name Stalker Apocalypse. The developer hopes to raise $600,000 to create the game but if they do not reach this goal all crowd funding money is still kept by the developer, unlike Kickstarter which only gives funds projects which have successfully reached their funding target.
This is what West Games have to say on their Crowdfunding page on World Wide Funder.
"STALKER Apocalypse is a new story driven first person shooter that's being made by our studio, West Games. Our team is made up of ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers and other talented team members. We were formerly developing a game called Areal, but after raising funds on our website and listening to our fans, we decided to re-focus our vision, and develop what is now STALKER Apocalypse (trademarked). STALKER Apocalypse features a unique story and plenty of familiar elements that will undoubtedly please our fans. There will be single player, multi player and split screen game modes. Stalker Apocalypse is being developed on Unreal Engine 4, and will be released on PC (Windows, Mac) and console (Xbox One, PS4) platforms."
Remember guys that this is not an official sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R, this is STALKER, despite the confusing screws in the projects logo. Even though West Games have trademarked the name "STALKER Apocalypse" they may be in for some legal trouble in the future as the game could be easily be mistaken for the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.
So far the project has raised $7481 and has 89 Days to go. You can learn more about STALKER Apocalypse on their Official crowdfunding page.
At this point I do not advise funding this developer as given their rather shady past and the fact that they keep your money regardless of whether or not they reach their goal you as a consumer have no assurance that you will ever receive a final product. As always be careful when it comes to Crowd funded games and early access, as they may not be what you initially expected or funded or may not result in a playable product.
