Star Fox 64 receives a native PC port
A native PC Port of Starfox 64 has been released by modders
Harbour Masters, the team behind the “Ship of Harkinian” port of Ocarina of Time, has created a fully functional PC version of Star Fox 64 called “Starship.” This native PC version of Starfox can be created by decompiling and recompiling the USA 1.1 Rev A version of Star Fox 64.
Like other native PC ports of Nintendo 64 classics, Starship’s GitHub page does not include copyrighted game assets. Instead, it only includes tools gamers can use to create a native PC version of Star Fox 64. As such, Nintendo cannot take down this native PC port on copyright grounds.
Currently, Starship supports three rendering APIs: DirectX 11 (for Windows PCs), OpenGL (all platforms), and Metal (macOS). The game also features an unlocked framerate on PC, allowing the game to be enjoyed at absurdly high framerates.
To play this PC port of Star Fox 64, all you will need is a ROM file for the game. However, it should be remembered that only the USA 1.1 Rev A version of the game is supported at this time. Note that more game versions should be supported with future Starship releases.
