Star Citizen raised more money than all video game Kickstarters in 2017
This year alone, Star Citizen is said to have raised $34.91 million, slightly less than the company generated in 2016, over two times more than all Kickstarted video game projects combined. This year Kickstarter game projects are estimated to have raised around $17.25 million. Star Citizen has been given two times as much money in donations as all Kickstarter video game projects combined for two years running.
Sadly, Robert Space Industries/Cloud Imperium Games did not reveal how much money the company has refunded to backers, making their yearly earnings somewhat inaccurate. Regardless, it seems unlikely that enough has been repaid to backers to make a huge dent in the $34.91 million that was raised this year.
Polygon has recently reported that some backers have taken legal action against Cloud Imperium Games to receive a refund for their original Kickstarter donations. Star Citizen was Kickstarted back in 2012, making it understandable why fans are aggravated at the slow development of the game.
Today Star Citizen and its single-player component Squadron 42 both have no firm release date. With every major update, the game is only getting more complex, leaving many to wonder whether or not the project will ever be finished.

Every every time they make it more complex.... why not concentrate and fix what they have? You cant say they have not had enough money...Quote
