At the start of the year, Star Wars Battlefront II was easily one of the most highly anticipated titles of 2017, bringing EA's Battlefront series into all Star Wars Filmic Eras from the Clone Wars to the Galactic Rebellion and beyond into the "First Order" Era of the Star Wars Canon. This game was also set to release with a single player campaign, satisfying the fans of the series that craved new story content. 

Star Wars: Battlefront II was set up to be way more successful than its predecessor, though that was ruined by the game's "loot box" system and the huge amount of time or money that was required to unlock in-game items and heroes.

These issues have been widely covered, even within the mainstream media, prompting EA to make some changes to the game's loot/progression system, though that was not enough to save the game from a disappointing opening weekend.    

Right now it has been reported that physical sales for the game are down 60% when compared to 2015's Star Wars: Battlefront, a drop that is too high to be due to gamers moving more towards digital purchases alone. These numbers come from Chart-Track, a company that tracks physical game sales in the UK, who revealed that Call of Duty: WWII managed to stay higher than Battlefront II on the UK's sales charts.

4. Pokémon Ultra Sun
5. Pokémon Ultra Moon
6. Assassin’s Creed Origins
7. The Sims 4

It is clear that EA's (temporary) removal of in-game purchases from Battlefront II was not enough to save the game from its negative perception, with many gamers cancelling their pre-orders for the title due to its Star Card system, Microtransactions and other issues.

To put it simply the game's progression system breeds imbalance in the game's online modes, making the game difficult to play for newcomers and will force players to purchase in-game items to remain competitive if in-game purchases are reintroduced without major changes.

I wonder whether the suits at EA are worried or whether they still will make all the money they want from those that did buy the game and happily will waste their money on Loot Boxes?Quote
