Starbreeze claims that Payday 3’s server issues have been fixed
Payday 3’s matchmaking issues are now behind them
Payday 3’s launched was plagued by matchmaking issues, so much so that the game’s Steam rating has become “Mostly Negative”. Last weekend, Starbreeze has been working hard to improve their matchmaking infrastructure to address these issues These fixes include both software and hardware changes. The game now has more regional nodes, higher levels of redundancy, and more matchmaking capacity. In other words, gamers can consider Payday 3 fixed.
Starbreeze detailed these fixes as part of a new blog post, which has informed players about the games server fixes. The update also details the roadmap for Payday 3, which details when players can expect to see new content and DLC for the game.
The scheduled maintenance carried out last week has fixed the initial matchmaking issues that occurred during PAYDAY 3’s first few days after launch. Matchmaking has been stable and has had good performance after the completed maintenance. In the past five days, PAYDAY 3 had a peak concurrent players (CCU) of 124,254. In September 2023, the game had 3,167,938 unique players (MAU). Starbreeze Nebula has a total of 4,538,702 registered users across all titles.
The planned maintenance was carried out in two stages. During Tuesday, September 26, the software in the matchmaking infrastructure that distributes incoming players to different servers was updated. During Friday, September 29, the infrastructure was upgraded both in terms of software and hardware, with more regional nodes to distribute players, increase the speed of matchmaking and create greater redundancy across all online services.
Payday 3’s content plans
In October, Starbreeze appears to be focusing on quality of life improvements for their heist shooter. The studio has confirmed that updates for all platforms that include “200+ QoL-improvements” will be released. It is also possible that the game will receive its first new content update this month, though this update may be pushed back to November.
Payday 3 players can expect to see additional new content and quality of life updates in November. The game’s “Syntax Error” DLC has a planned “Winter 2023” release timeframe. This DLC is a free part of Payday 3’s Silver and Gold Edition versions.
While Starbreeze have successfully fixed the server issues that plagued Payday 3 at launch, the studio has a long way to go if they want to restore the game’s reputation. Starbreeze needs to bring gamers back into Payday 3, and turn its negative review ratings around. That shift will take time, but the good news is that Starbreeze plans to support Payday 3 long-term.
