Steam Broadcasting and FPS overlay is now available to all

With the latest Steam Client Update all users will be able to use Steam Broadcasting and will be able to track their FPS in-game without the need for 3rd party apps like FRAPs.

While Steam broadcasting is the biggest new feature of this update, the FPS overlay is undoubtedly the most interesting addition to Steam in my eyes. Steam Broadcasting is a welcome addition to Steam, but it remains to be seen how popular it will become, especially when it has to compete with Twitch.

The update also includes many other fixes and improvements to Steam, including a reduced amount of CPU usage when interacting with the client.

Steam Adds an FPS Counter

One thing I really hope for is that Vailve will add a framerate recording tool to Steam for easy benchmarking, but until then we will still have to use FRAPS.

was using it yesterday. It's nice to know that my frame rate on Sniper Elite 3 stayed around the 84 FPS mark with a few spikes to 119 FPS on my 1440p monitor, everything maxed out, with a XFX R9 290.Quote
