Steam Censoring Links To CD-Key Vendors
In addition to known torrent sites, Steam is now censoring links to many known 3rd party key resellers on Steam Chat in order to reduce the popularity of such sites.
While on the surface it may look like Valve is simply trying to get buyers to by directly from them, increasing their potential profit, we must remember that the CD key market is a rater grey area, where it is unknown if these keys are legitimate or even legally obtained.
So far we know that the 3rd party key retailers CDKeys.com, G2A and Kinguin.net have been blocked by Steam, but it is expected that many more sites are already blocked or will be blocked int he near future.
(This has happened mere moths after Steam started censoring links to Torrent sites)
While it is still easily possible to go to and buy steam keys from these sites we must remember one thing, that they do not offer the same level of customer support that Steam does, as most of these resellers will not offer a refund for your purchase, which is something that steam has already implemented.
Let us not forget that in the past CD keys from 3rd party resellers have been revoked in the past, as key from these sites can originate from stolen credit cards or other illegal means. As always buyers should take care when purchasing game keys outside a known trustworthy source.
