Valve has added official support for the PS4's Dualshock 4 controller on Steam, allowing PC gamers to easily create custom controller bindings as well as utilise the controller's touchpad and gyro.

DualShock 4 functionality has been added to Steam as part of Valve's latest client update, giving the DualShock 4 the same functionality on Steam as Valve's own Steam controller, making the exact same API calls allowing the Steam API to take care os DS4 controller support in games.

It is Valve's aim to add controller support to Steam for controllers other than Xbox's gamepad and Valve's Steam controller, with Valve working on DS4 controller support first due to the lack of native support in most modern PC titles.

In addition to Dualshock 4 support, this new update also adds higher bandwidth options which will allow Steam to support 4K in-home streaming. Previously those who wished to stream 4K gaming content to their 4K TVs/HTPCs would have severe artefacts and image quality degradation due to bandwidth restrictions.

With such high bandwidth requirements, 4K streaming may not be possible on all home networks and will need to be used with two wired devices to ensure minimal latency.
