Steam's latest client updates allows users to move games to different storage drives

Steam's latest client updates allows users to transfer games to different storage drives or locations, finally allowing PC gamers to move game their files with ease.

Previously, Steam users would have to move their files to a new drive or folder manually, or simply delete their Steam games and redownload them using the Steam client to a new location, neither of which is a simple or efficient process. Now all PC gamers will need to do is go into their game's "properties", into their "local files" tab and then select "move install folder", after which then can simply select where they want their game files moved to.

This process is great for those who have limited storage space on an SSD, allowing them to move the games that they are not frequently playing to a slower storage solution in order to free up more space for the latest release.

This feature is one that Steam users have been requesting for some time, and is certainly a feature that many PC gamers will find useful moving forward. Hopefully we will soon be seeing similar features in competing PC gaming clients, as some Steam could do with some additional compatition in this regard.

This is to move the files to a new drive. It was possible before to download to a new drive, but to move, you had to delete and redownload/install to a new location.Quote

Nope you could copy the files over to the new drive and then tell steam to delete the old place when installing point to new drive steam would find the files and no downloadingQuote

Didn't work with all games though, GTA V for example, because it downloads a highly compressed version, it looks for those installation files rather than the game files themselves.

This is a great addition to steam!Quote
