Tests highlight Valorant performance gains with Unreal Engine 5.3

Valorant achieves performance gains and some visual improvements with Unreal Engine 5.3

Riot Games has successfully moved Valorant to Unreal Engine 5.3, moving the game away from Unreal Engine 4. Riot Games previously stated that it aimed to deliver “improved framerate performance” with this new version, though gamers were sceptical. After all, Unreal Engine 5 games are famed for their performance issues, especially on PC.

MxBenchmarkPC has tested Valorant’s new version and has found that it delivers better performance with their Nvidia RTX 4070/Intel i7-14700F powered gaming PC. That said, the game’s performance gains are marginal, as are the game’s visual improvements.

With Unreal Engine 5.3, Riot has successfully upgraded Valorant’s baseline technology without negatively impacting Valorant’s gameplay, performance, and visuals. Unless you were told about the upgrade, you could be forgiven for thinking that nothing has changed.

Unreal Engine 5 gives the Valorant team access to new features and technologies. This will allow Riot Games to continue improving and expanding Valorant. With its new technological foundation, Riot has new possibilities to explore, and that’s great news for Valorant’s playerbase.
