The Witcher 3’s Enhanced Graphics Mod makes the game look better than ever

The Witcher 3 is one of the best looking games of the current generation, at least as far as open-world RPGs go. While the game released in 2015, the game can still prove to be demanding today, especially at above-average resolutions like 1440p and 4K. But what if you wanted to crank The Witcher 3’s visuals up to 11? This is where The Witcher 3’s “Enhanced Graphics Settings” mod comes in.

Over the weekend, a modder called dvcons released the “Enhanced Graphics Mod” for The Witcher 3, increasing the game’s draw distances, shadow quality, grass density and texture quality to levels which were previously unavailable to players of the game.

With this mod requires no scripts or any new game assets, which means that The Witcher 3’s “Enhanced Graphics Settings” mod should be compatible with all other Witcher 3 mods. This is great news for all fans of The Witcher 3 on PC, especially those who play the game using newer graphics hardware. The only exception to this is The Witcher 3’s HDReworked Project, which must be installed before The Witcher 3’s “Enhanced Graphics Settings” mod to function correctly.

Below is what dvcons has to say about The Witcher 3’s “Enhanced Graphics Settings” mod.

This mod adds a new graphic preset to the game. The goal was to achieve a good balance between performance andappearance. For this reason, only those graphics options that actually result in a visible change have been enhanced. Many other settings that should theoretically improve the appearance, but in reality only affect the performance without offering a visible added value, were not considered. For the sake of simplicity, these new options don’t need to be adjusted individually, but have simply been integrated into the respective settings sliders (see video). Nonetheless, this modification does, of course, result in a certain loss of performance. However, so far I could only observe a very tolerable change of about 5-15 fps, depending on the situation.

As you can see, this mod has the potential to significantly improve The Witcher 3’s visuals, especially when it comes to distant details. Users of 1440p and 4K monitors will appreciate this extra draw distance, though it is worth noting that this mod will increase The Witcher 3’s hardware utilisation, decreasing framerates in the process.

The Witcher 3’s “Enhanced Graphics Settings” mod is currently available to download at Nexus Mods.
