More patches for the Callisto Protocol's PC version are coming - Expect further optimisations

Following yesterday's disastrous PC launch, Striking Distance Studios has patched The Callisto Protocol's PC version to greatly improve the game's 'gameplay stuttering issues'. The developer has confirmed that these gameplay stutters are due to 'shader compilation' issues, and that the developer is working on further optimisations for the game's PC version.

Before today's patch, the PC version of The Callisto Protocol was unplayable, with gameplay almost constantly coming to a halt as new effects and shaders compiled when they first are seen in-game. These performance issues affected all players, even those with ultra-high-end gaming PCs, though players with lower-end systems did see these stutters a take longer to resolve.

The good news is that after today's patch, The Callisto Protocol's PC version is much more playable, though some users are still reporting performance issues. Regardless, The Callisto Protocol's PC version now runs a lot better than before, and future patches should improve things further.

Striking Distance Studios will need to continue to work hard to improve The Callisto Protocol's PC version with post-launch patches, as the studio will need to re-earn the trust of PC gamers following yesterday's sub-par launch. PC gamers expect games to not suffer from these performance issues, and other game developers need to ensure that their games are not marred by the same performance problems in the future.

Credit where credit is due, Striking Distance Studios have created an excellent game with The Callisto Protocol and they have patched their PC version at lightning fast speeds. Even so, The Callisto Protocol should not have launched on PC in that state, and it will take time for the game's reputation on PC to improve.

According to the games director and Dead Space veteran Glen Schofield the wrong file was initially patched and sent out into the wild which is why they fixed the stuttering issue so quickly as they had the patch ready.

At least they admit a mistake was made.

happens. Unfortunately rushing around launch time is inevitable and stressful. This probably happens more than you'd think and at least they are honest about it.

At least they took ownership. CDPR just blamed their QA validators/testers to make themselves look better.Quote

Yeah, sometimes we think that these companies shouldn't ever make mistakes because so much is riding on them. But in reality they're still humans. I had a lot of responsibility to fix something this morning, and it was very difficult. I did my best, but we still didn't get it quite right. We had prep time and everything; it's just the way it goes.Quote
