The Medium's PC System Requirements have been updated - Is your system ready?

Blooper Team's The Medium is due to release on January 28th, giving gamers access to a next-generation-only experience that's only available on Windows and Xbox Series X/S.

Simply put, this game is not possible on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 systems. The game relies on the simultaneous traversal of two worlds, the real world and the mysterious spirit world. This feat requires fast storage and a lot of CPU power, both of which are available on PC and Xbox Series consoles.

In the runup to launch, Blooper Team has released a new 14-minute gameplay trailer for The Medium, which highlights the game's dual-world nature and the game's incredible visuals. On PC, The Medium will support hardware-accelerated ray tracing, though the game can be played with or without ray tracing depending on your PC's specifications.

Since we last reported on The Medium's system requirements, the game's PC system requirements on Steam have been updated to reflect The Medium's higher-than-expected storage requirements. The Medium will take up 55GB of storage instead of 30GB, and the game's "SSD recommended" notation is not present on the game's Steam page.

As a next-generation title, The Medium is designed with next-generation hardware in mind, featuring DXR ray tracing support on day-1 through Microsoft's DirectX 12 API. Thankfully, these effects can be disabled for those with incompatible hardware, making the game accessible to PC gamers with strong quad-core processors and a GTX 1060 (or AMD R9 390X) or better. That said, the game also has a DirectX 11 mode, which appears to be recommended for those who do not wish to use ray tracing.

The Medium - PC system requirements done right!

Unlike most PC gamers, The Medium's developers had listed resolution targets for their minimum and recommended system requirements. They have listed recommended system requirements for 1080p 4K and 4K with DXR ray tracing.

While we would love to see framerate targets added to this, Blooper Team has already done better than most PC developers on Steam. The Medium may have framerate targets added to these requirements as the game is polished further.

Based on the requirements below, moving from an RTX 2070 to an RTX 2080 will add enough performance headroom to enable ray-traced graphical effects, suggesting that this title's ray tracing performance requirements are low.
