Until now the PS4 has has been very limited when to comes to playing media from your USB sticks, external hard drivers or home servers, the console simply could not play them, until now.

Today the PS4 has gotten a big Media Player Update, allowing you to play the most popular video and audio file formats on the console. At Sony's press conference the company announced the PS4's media player was available to download.

"The Media Player works with both your home server and when plugging a USB stick with media into one of the available ports on the PS4,"

"Your home server will appear as a media option in the player automatically and finding your media is simple and quick."

Probably to get out the door before Xbox released. It's a smart move tbh but yeah it does suck it took forever. PS3 rocked with multimedia and PS4 took forever to get to the same level. Truth be told though, Xbox has always been better with software releases on the consoles than Sony, considering they specialize and software and allQuote

Yeah, I guess this is how it's always going to be now - Release an unfinished product first and gradually roll out patches/updates.Quote
