Earlier this year, Nintendo fans released a full PC port of Super Mario 64, a version of the game which requires no emulation and can be played without any major restrictions. This fan-made port is a no-fuss PC version of Mario 64, complete with gamepad support, high refresh rate support and native resolution rendering.

Now, a group of developers have recreated all of the textures within Super Mario 64 to create SM64 Redrawn, a mod which gives Super Mario 64’s PC version the look and feel of a full-on HD remaster. The files for this mod are currently available on GitHub and are free to download.

Below, you can see what we mean by this, as the YouTuber Unreal, who is not to be confused with Epic Game’s Unreal Engine, has created a video to showcase Super Mario 64’s new look.

The N64 version of Mario 64 runs at 240p at 30 FPS or less, and on PC, this game can now run at ultra-high resolutions with 60FPS framerates with ease on modern hardware. With this texture pack, Mario 64 now hold up well to high resolutions, making 4K Mario 64 a much more enjoyable experience.

There may be other texture packs for Super Mario 64’s PC version, but right now, SM64 Redrawn is our favourite. Congratulations to all of this mod’s creators, as they have created a fantastic texture pack.
