Total War: Warhammer 2’s “potion of speed update” reduces end-turn times and boosts game performance

To prepare for the release of the game’s “The Shadow & the Blade” DLC, Total War: Warhammer II has received an updated that’s titled “the potion of speed update”, promising gamers improved game performance and shorter turn-end times.

Creative Assembly says that they have found “useful code optimisations” that allow the developer to improve the game’s AI decision-making and reduce end-turn times. Players can also expect “Slight overall improvements to both framerates and loading times” in both the game’s campaign and battle modes, though the main benefit of this patch is to reduce end-turn times.

These changes will allow gamers to spend less time waiting for the AI to finish its turns on the Warhammer II campaign map, reducing game downtime to maximise playtime. End turn-times are said to be reduced by as much as 60%, though these changes will differ depending on the player’s system specifications and their specific in-game scenario.

Total War: Warhammer II’s “Potion of Speed Update” will release alongside the game’s “The Shadow & The Blade” DLC tomorrow. Below is a description of how this update reduced end-turn times.

The headline improvement in this update, we’ve found some useful code optimisations to the campaign gameplay systems and AI’s decision-making during end-turn rounds. These improvements reduce the time it takes for each faction to take its turn when you hit the end-turn button. This time reduction benefits players on all system specifications but will vary according to individual specs.
