Two classic RPGs are now available for free on GOG

While GOG is best known for delivering its games DRM-free today, the company was formerly known for its work bringing classic PC titles to modern operating systems. By patching backwards compatibility issues on these titles, GOG was able to bring many older games to newer audiences. Back then, GOG was known as “Good Old Games”, and was the best place to purchase old DOS games and early 3D gaming titles.

Right now, two of Mike Singleton’s ZX Spectrum RPGs are available for free on PC, with the GPG version supporting modern Windows operating systems and macOS. These titles are The Lords of Midnight and Doomdark’s Revenge. Both of these games were previously available for $5.99.

As older ZX Spectrum games, neither of these titles are graphically appealing by today’s standard, but for the low, low cost of free, they are certainly worth looking at if you want a nostalgia trip. Younger gamers will also be able to have a neat look into gaming in the mid-80s, before Windows became standard on consumer PCs and long before 3D graphics became commonplace.

Below is a trailer for The Lords of Midnight, which should give you an idea of what to expect.

PC Gamers can redeem free copies of The Lords of Midnight and Doomdark’s Revenge at GOG.
