Ubisoft fixes Windows 11 24H2 compatibility issues in affected games
Ubisoft addresses Windows 11 24H2 compatibility issues with game updates
Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 update is a mess. Even now, several major bugs have remained unfixed, but that has not stopped Microsoft’s rollout. Ubisoft has confirmed that they have updated many of their recent and older releases to address Windows 11 24H2 compatibility issues. These issues resulted in unresponsive games, poor performance, and black screen issues.
Below is Microsoft’s description of these issues.
After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.
Affected Ubisoft games include Star Wars Outlaws, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. All of these games have been updated to address these compatibility issues. That’s right; Microsoft didn’t address these update-related OS compatibility issues, and Ubisoft did.
The following games are no longer affected by this issue. Details are below:
- âStar Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora are no longer affected by this issue due to temporary hotfixes deployed by Ubisoft. While these fixes mitigate the crashes, players might still experience some performance issues. For more details, see the release notes for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora â Title Update 1.2 and Star Wars Outlaws â Title Update 1.4.0. The safeguard hold (ID 54580160) that was previously in place for these two games has been lifted as of 12/05/2024.
- âAssassinâs Creed: Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla are no longer affected by this issue due to fixes deployed by Ubisoft. These updates have resolved the compatibility issues with Windows 11, version 24H2, ensuring that players can now enjoy these games without previous disruptions. The safeguard hold (ID 54437462) that was previously in place has been lifted as of 1/16/2025 to exclude these games.
Even now, other Windows 11 24H2 bugs remain unresolved. The AutoHDR issues that we reported on in December 2024 remain unfixed. Currently, Microsoft has no ETA for a fix. The bug is “mitigated”. What’s the mitigation? Microsoft suggests turning off AutoHDR as a “workaround”…
Microsoft needs to do better – PC gamers are tired of Windows
The release of Windows 11’s 24H2 highlights a consistent problem with Microsoft and its Windows OS. Every major Windows update introduces new bugs and issues, signalling that Microsoft’s Quality Assurance mechanisms are clearly not good enough. OS updates should not lower system performance or impact software compatibility. Most importantly, users should not be afraid of updating their systems.
PC gamers are tired of Microsoft’s inability to provide users with a stable and performant operating system. If Microsoft fails to address these concerns, it will be leaving the door wide open for alternatives to gain market share. Valve’s Steam Deck has proven that SteamOS is good enough to pull PC gamers away from Windows. It’s only a matter of time before SteamOS comes to other PC handhelds and gaming devices. If Microsoft wants to maintain its dominant position, it must fix Windows.
Microsoft’s PC gaming problems extend beyond Windows. DirectX 12 also has issues. Microsoft needs to address issues like Shader compilation stutter at the API level. Furthermore, Microsoft needs a better PC game launcher for Game Pass, as the Microsoft Store has been problematic for years.
