Ubisoft is making its Steam games better by removing the need for Ubisoft Connect
Ubisoft Connect is far from the worst game launcher on PC, but that doesn’t mean it should be required to run Ubisoft’s games on Steam. Yes, Ubisoft’s games have some neat cross-platform features, but if you’re buying a game on Steam, it shouldn’t need a 3rd party launcher to function. Today’s good news is that Ubisoft has finally started to address this annoyance, with Ubisoft Connect Services arriving in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
Ubisoft has created Ubisoft Connect Services to replace the need for a dedicated Ubisoft Connect install. This lets Steam users run Ubisoft games without installing an additional launcher. Ubisoft Connect Services maintains Ubisoft Connect features like cross-progression, cross-play, achievements, and rewards, but without needing Ubisoft’s full game launcher.
For now, Ubisoft is trialling this new feature with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Ubisoft calls this “an initial step towards a smoother and more streamlined launch experience on Steam”. In time, this service will “progressively evolve and roll out to more Ubisoft games on Steam”.

While we could not find Ubisoft’s statement on Steam, we did find Ubisoft Connect Services on Steam. It is indeed connected to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, confirming that the above Reddit post is legitimate.
Honestly, this is a smart move from Ubisoft. Small annoyances, like having to install Ubisoft Connect, can turn gamers off. If nothing else, this move could encourage more game sales on Steam and give all Steam users a better user experience.
Earlier this week, Ubisoft added its games to the Xbox Disc-to-Digital program, making Ubisoft Connect Services Ubisoft’s second big pro-gamer move this week. Hopefully, Ubisoft can roll out Ubisoft Connect Services more widely in the near future. After all, most Ubisoft games on Steam still need a dedicated Ubisoft Connect install.
