Ubisoft will not be giving reviewers access For Honor before launch

Ubisoft will not be giving reviewers or members of the gaming press early access to For Honor before the game launches on February 14th.

This will mean that gamers will not be able to read reviews for this title at or before launch, leaving consumers without adequate information to inform their purchasing decision. While the game will have an Open Beta between February 9th and 12th, this will not allow gamers to play the game's single-player component or have any real information about the game's single-player campaign.

Ubisoft is likely taking this new stance on pre-release game copies in response to Bethesda's recent policy changes, where the company also stopped providing pre-release review copies of members of the gaming press.

This move will no doubt designed to help For Honor's sales, as this will minimise any negative press for the game before launch and will media less power to prevent sales for the game within its launch window.

While this move does not necessarily mean that For Honor is a bad game, this action could mark a wider change in policy, which eventually lead to the release of a sub-par game (either performance or gameplay wise) and leave consumers without enough information in order to make an informed purchasing decision.

With For Honor having an Open Beta before launch, it is unlikely that consumers will be buying this game without at least a vague idea about how good the game plays, though it does open up the possibility for a No Man's Sky like situation where consumers are horribly misinformed before launch and end up purchasing a game that they otherwise wouldn't have.

Considering you can play the Open Beta, not a big deal tbh
I can also understand why they don't want you playing the story either. In a 3 day span, people could finish the story, then not buy the game. Which would hurt sales as a lot of people might not care about multiplayer.Quote

Wonder if this has anything to do with people realising it's basically a Moba and lost interest...Quote

"leave consumers without enough information in order to make an informed purchasing decision" - comments like this are just stupid. The only people this affects are those who are too impatient to wait until it's been released.

It's simple really - wait until it's been released and see what the reviews say, then decide.Quote

IMO Ubicrap should just stick to making console games only, They don't care about PC gaming.Quote
