Warcraft 3: Reforged will release next month

Blizzard has announced that Warcraft 3: Reforged, their remaster of the 2002 RTS classic, will not meet its 2019 release window, releasing instead on January 28th 2019 at 11 PM GMT.

While Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is an old game, and its graphics are considered mediocre today, it is hard to deny that the game has a strong legacy, forging the story of World of Warcraft’s greatest expansions while constructing a lore that still remains relevant to gamers today.

Following the success of Starcraft: Brood War Remastered, Blizzard has decided to create Warcraft III: Reforged, remastering both Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and it’s expansion The Frozen Throne with 4K ready visuals, updated animations and recreated cutscenes. Even more impressive is the fact that this new version retains support for multiplayer play with the original Warcraft III. That’s right, reforged players will be able to play with the game’s 2002 original.

Before now, Blizzard stated that Warcraft 3: Reforged would release, “on or before December 31, 2019”, with the game supporting both MacOS and Windows 7 (or newer) operating systems at launch. Technically speaking, the game still supports Windows XP and Vista, but these OS’ are unsupported by Battle.net. Now the game is due to release in January 2020.

Warcraft III: Reforged is a stunning reimagining of the revolutionary real-time strategy game that laid the foundation for Azeroth’s most epic stories. It is a remake in the truest sense, featuring a thorough visual overhaul, a suite of contemporary social and matchmaking features, and more. Command the Night Elves, Undead, Orcs, and Humans as alliances shift and armies clash in this timeless real-time strategy game.

As a recreation of a 2002 PC title, it is pretty safe to say that any modern gaming PC will be able to handle Warcraft III: Reforged, as while the game’s assets have been updated, the game at its core remains the same as it always was, hence the game’s multiplayer compatibility with the original.

Fans of Warcraft III’s Campaigns should note that many of the game’s maps have been changed to better reflect their appearances in World of Warcraft, something that will allow certain story elements of Warcraft III to better impact players of World of Warcraft.

Warcraft III: Reforged will require Battle.net to play. Pre-orders for the remaster are currently available for $29.99 US.
