Expect some significant graphical upgrades of the game's predecessor

Back in 2015, a developer called Fatshark Games released Warhammer: The End Times - Vermintide, a surprise hit that filled a gap in the market that formed due to the absence of a co-op horde defence game like Valve's Left 4 Dead.

With the overuse of Zombies in games of that era, Vermintide stood out, using the world-famous Warhammer license to create a 4-player co-op survival experience using the universe's Skaven race. Here players defended against a constant onslaught of vile Ratmen.

Vermintide sold over 2 million copies across PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with Vermintide 2 being a highly anticipated sequel thanks to the upgrades that will be coming with the game's next iteration, which includes the Warriors of Chaos, which will offer a very different gameplay experience.

Aside from the extra combat variety provided by heavily armoured warriors of Chaos and fast, cunning Skaven, the game will also feature an upgraded engine. Thanks to the success of the first game, extra attention can be paid to the graphical fidelity and resource usage of this sequel, allowing Fatshark to get more from modern CPU and GPU hardware than before.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will support DirectX 12 on PC as well as volumetric lighting/fog and a new texture streaming method, allowing Fatshark to create a more immersive, highly detailed environments.

We have constantly been updating the engine since we released Vermintide this has led to better optimization when it comes to how we utilize both the CPU and the GPU. We have also added support for DX12. Perhaps most noticeable is the addition of Volumetric Lighting/Fog which really adds a lot of depth to the environments. We have added texture streaming which allows better texture handling and enables us to have more details. We have this really cool new fluid system that enables us to have liquids that spread naturally over the environments which allows us to have really cool napalm-like attacks that spread fire over the environments.

One of the most significant changes Vermintide is the game's additional hero types, offering three different "careers" for each of the game's five hero types. The game will also feature a unique talent tree for each career and upgrades to the game's loot system that will provide players with more relevant rewards to their chosen Hero/Career.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will have DirectX 12 support on PC

After the game's release on PC, Warhammer: Vermintide II will be coming to both PS4 and Xbox One. Right now the original Vermintide has released an Xbox One X version of the title, with a PS4 pro patch on the way for users of Sony's latest console. Both versions will offer higher resolution gameplay as well as smoother framerates as well as other improved graphical options like shadows and anti-aliasing.

Right now Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is set to release on PC on Q1 2018.

The last game filled your party with bots if you are not playing with friends, so it could theoretically be played solo. For these Left 4 Dead Horde style games, half the fun for me has always been banter with mates TBH.Quote

Yeah that is fun! I'm a solo player at heart though, but always did appreciate the laughs with a group.Quote

Played the first for around 10 hours total, Was ok but having a thousand skaven *rats* pile on to you and kill you quickly was not fun IMO.Quote
