Warning! Do not update Minecraft on PC using the Xbox App
Don’t update Minecraft using the Xbox App on PC
On X (formerly Twitter) Mojang has issued a warning to Minecraft players on PC. The company has warned Minecraft players using the Xbox App to not update their game using the app. Doing so could result in the deletion of Minecraft worlds.
Thankfully, Mojang has an easy fix for this update issue. First, players need to use the “Gaming Services Repair tool” through the Xbox App, Doing this first will allow Minecraft’s new update to install without issues. Instructions on how to do this are available here.
Using the Gaming Services Repair Tool will update Microsoft’s gaming Services to version 19.87,13001.0, which will avoid Minecraft’s update issue. Why has this update not already been applied? Well, Microsoft needs to improve their Xbox App update procedures.
Do not update Minecraft through the Xbox app on PC. If you do, your worlds may be lost. We recommend that you run the Gaming Services Repair Tool for PC before installing the Minecraft update. For more information, go here: https://t.co/9X1am8dzHG

The Microsoft Store and Xbox app have long been plagued with strange download issues. This is something that Microsoft needs to improve, especially if they want gamers to use PC Game Pass or buy more games using the Xbox App. Now that Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard, perhaps they can learn a thing or two from the Battle.net launcher, which appears to be free of these issues.
