WhatsApp introduces end-to-end encryption

WhatsApp has introduced end-to-end encryption to their communications services, meaning that your private communications will remain private and unreadable if intercepted by criminals or  governments.

The idea behind end-end encryption on WhatsApp is simple, allow only those who you contact to read the messages that you send them, leaving your communications safe from cybercriminals, governments or hackers. WhatsApp themselves say that they themselves cannot crack their own encryption, meaning that your messages are safe from WhatApp and even their facebook overlords.

Below is a quote from WhatsApps own blog post on the update.

The idea is simple: when you send a message, the only person who can read it is the person or group chat that you send that message to. No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us.

  Whatsapp introduces end-to-end encryption

End-End encryption will only be available for those who are using the most recent version of WhatsApp, but all those participating in a group chat or even one-one communications will be required to use the newest version of WhatsApp in order for Encryption to be used.

I've even seen news reports that COD games are used for communication between terrorists. So wouldn't be surprisedQuote
