WhatsApp's mute function is now broken in group chats

Thanks to a new WhatsApp update the app's mute function is now broken in group chats, with the new @name function giving users notifications regardless of whether or not you have muted the group.

This means that WhatApp users will receive notification even when they have muted a particular group, leaving users with no option to completely mute a group. While the @name function is a useful tool, WhatApp users need the ability to completely mute a group if they wish.

In the future, WhatsApp will need to implement the ability to mute groups including specific messages that use the @name function, as well as the ability to mute groups with the exception of @name messages.

Right now WhatsApp is encouraging their users to create larger and larger group chats, recently increasing the group size limit to 256 users.
