Windows 10 is now the most used OS on Steam

Windows 10 has already proven to be the most popular Windows OS to date, receiving unprecedented levels of adoption due to Microsoft's Free Upgrade to existing Windows 7 and 8 users.

Valve has just revealed that Windows 10 is now the most popular OS on the Steam Platform, taking up 36.97% market share, meaning that the new OS now accounts for over one-third of Steam users.

With such widespread adoption already there is no doubt that the new OS will continue to grow in popularity for PC gamers, especially as more DirectX 12 games launch over the next few months.

With over a third of Steam users using Windows 10, building games with DirectX 12 in mind looks like an increasingly attractive option for developers. So far Windows 10 has increased it's market share on steam each month consistently, so it is expected that Windows 10 may even be able to increase their market share to perhaps 40-45% market share in time for the OS' 1 year anniversary.

One other noteworthy statistic from the hardware survey is the dominance of Nvidia GPUs, with Nvidia holding 56.35% market share on Steam and AMD/ATI holding a mere 25.5%, which is less than half of Nvidia's share. Intel Integrated GPUs hold 17.77% of the market.

Windows 10 64bit and Windows 10 32bit is 38.28% put together while Windows 7 64bit and Windows 7 32bit is 39,93 put together so basically Windows 10 is not the most popular OS. Windows 7 is still on top.

Except they're considered to be 4 seperate things in Steam's survey, so W10 64-bit (and thereby W10) is on top.

Also, please behave more modestly, when it's your first day on a forum. You're coming across as rude.Quote

I agree with August Olsson. Most of this win10 spike is caused by microsoft's sneaky bs upgrade methods, free or not. And I do agree that 32 and 64bit should be merged together in polls like this.Quote

Windows 10 is on my SP3 and I've put it on my home server too, both non-gaming non-Steam machines. I've held of putting it on my main rig for many reasons but it'll be on there soon. Probably a day before the deadline!Quote
