Xbox delivers major Xbox Game Pass price drop, but there’s a trade-off

Microsoft cuts Call of Duty to slash Xbox Game Pass pricing

Microsoft has unveiled a major price slash for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The monthly price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has been slashed from $29.99 to $22.99, and the price of PC Game Pass has dropped from $16.49 to $13.99. However, this price decrease comes at a cost.

New Call of Duty games will not be coming to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass on day 1. That’s it. If you aren’t a fan of Call of Duty, this is a pure win for you. If not, you will either need to buy the newest Call of Duty game or wait “about a year” for the game to come to Game Pass.

Starting today, Game Pass Ultimate drops from $29.99 to $22.99 a month. PC Game Pass will also drop from $16.49 to $13.99 a month. Prices may vary by region.

Beginning this year, future Call of Duty titles won’t join Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. New Call of Duty games will be added to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass during the following holiday season (about a year later), while existing Call of Duty titles already in the library will continue to be available.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will continue to have access to hundreds of games on Xbox console and PC including current Call of Duty titles, in-game benefits, online console multiplayer, unlimited Xbox Cloud Gaming, and major day one releases. Our players cover a wide breadth of geographies, preferences, and tastes, so while there isn’t a single model that’s best for everyone, this change responds to a lot of feedback we’ve gotten so far. We’ll continue to listen and learn.

Microsoft’s changes to Game Pass come as a result of fan feedback. Gamers didn’t like how expensive Game Pass has become. Now, gamers can enjoy Game Pass at a greatly reduced cost. Both Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass still include other day-1 releases. Only Call of Duty will be missing from the catalogue. That’s a fairly small sacrifice for gamers, and effectively returns Game Pass to where it was previously.
