Xbox says its "sorry to get your hopes up" following Perfect Dark and Fable Twitter account discovery

Twitter "Placeholder" accounts have been discovered, igniting hopes that Microsoft plans to reveal new Fable and Perfect Dark titles in the near future, bringing both franchises to the Xbox Series X.

One of these accounts had an Xbox employee as a follower and the other was registered to a Microsoft email address, making fan hopeful that new games for both franchises are in the works.

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has been quick to dismiss any rumours of upcoming Fable and Perfect dark titles, stating that both accounts have been "inactive for years" and that "it's standard practice to secure social handles for our (Microsoft's) IP. With this comment, Greenberg squashed all rumours surrounding these franchises.

Curiously, Greenberg's statement has already been proven false, as the @PerfectDarkGame placeholder account hasn't been registered by Microsoft. Furthermore, the Fable account was only registered in March, which doesn't support Greenberg's "inactive for years" claim.

The @PerfectDarkGame Twitter account is now operating under the name Joanna Dark, the name of Perfect Dark's protagonist, and in a recent Tweet the owner of the account confirmed that they are just "a normal guy who got the @."

Right now, it seems certain that Microsoft doesn't have new Fable or Perfect Dark games in development. Microsoft is sure to have some surprises waiting for us at their next Xbox Series X event, but it looks like new Fable and Perfect Dark games aren't on the agenda.
