Crucial will be releasing an MX300 SSD with 3D NAND this month

Micron has announced a large range of new enterprise products that use their new 3D NAND technology but alongside these announcements for the enterprise market they also announced Crucial's MX300 SSD, which will be coming to the consumer market later this month.

This will be the first consumer SSD from Crucial that will use 3D NAND, enabling capacities that are much larger than previously possible with traditional planar NAND technology. Micron's new 3D NAND uses 32 stacked layers NAND that allows capacities of up 256Gbit per chip, which is twice as dense as Micron's traditional 16nm planar NAND.

Crucial's new MX300 SSD will be using Silicon Motion's SM2258 controller and will be able to easily achieve capacities of 2TB or more.

Right now we do not know what the pricing of Crucial's MX300 will be like, but as 3D NAND becomes common in SSDs later this year SSDs are expected to see large price reductions.
