Mushkin launches their Pilot series of M.2 NVMe SSDs
Like most high-performance SSDs, Muchkin’s higher-end offerings provide users with increased performance when compared to their low capacity counterparts, with Mushkin’s 250GB Pilot offering an almost 2x performance boost over the drive’s 120GB counterpart. Further increases in sequential read/write performance is also available when moving up to capacities of 500GB or higher.Â
The only real issue that some PC builders will have with Mushkin’s offering is its use of a green PCB, though this could be covered by a motherboard’s M.2 heatsink on most systems, eliminating this factor as an issue. Â
These M.2 SSDs will ship with capacities of 120GB, 250GB, 500GB and 1TB, with specifications for each drive being available in the table below. These specifications come directly from Mushkin’s website.Â

Like many low capacity SSDs, Mushkin’s Pilot 120GB SSD offers sub-par performance when compared to its higher-end counterpart, likely due to the SSD’s use of fewer NAND chips in its construction, leaving the SSD’s controller unsaturated. This performance limitation is why some ultra-high-end SSDs like Samsung’s 970 EVO does not ship with 120GB variants anymore.Â
Mushkin lists each of these drives as having as mean time between failure (MTBF) of 1.5 million hours, with each SSD shipping with a three-year warranty. Sadly Mushkin has not released the retail pricing of their new Pilot series of SSDs.Â
