Samsung pushes the limits of PCIe 5.0 with its new 9100 PRO SSD

Samsung reveals their 9100 PRO SSD with up to 8TB capacities

Samsung are finally pushing the limits of the PCIe 5.0 interface. In a (now removed) post, Samsung India has officially revealed the company’s new 9100 PRO PCIe 5.0 SSD. This new SSD promises a staggering “99% performance improvement” over its predecessor, nearly doubling its performance.

With sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 13,400 MB/s, Samsung is pushing the limits of what’s possible using the PCIe 5.0 interface. With their 9100 PRO SSD, Samsung plans to offer buyers up to 8TB of SSD storage capacity. Furthermore, this drive boasts 2,200K/2,600K IOPS for read and write workloads.

This new drive is said ot be 49% more efficient than its predecessor, the 990 PRO. This means that it delivers more performance per watt than its predecessor and can remain cool under load. So far, Samsung has confirmed 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB versions of this SSD. These models will be available for INR 14999 (£137), INR 25499 (£232), and INR 49999 (£455), respectively. An 8 TB model is also on the horizon.

Samsung’s new 9100 PRO SSD will be available with and without a heatsink. The 1-4TB models will have an 8.8mm thick heatsink. The larger 8 TB model will have a thicker 11.25 mm heatsink when it releases later this year.

It is currently unknown why Samsung deleted its announcement of this SSD. Perhaps Samsung India revealed this new drive early. If that is the case, we can expect Samsung to officially reveal their new 9100 PRO SSD soon.
