Samsung could easily make an 8TB 860 QVO SSD

Samsung has revealed their 860 QVO series of SSDs to the world, offering affordable 1-4TB SSDs to the masses through the use of 4-bit QLC NAND. These early QLC drives showcase impressive performance numbers in standard system workloads, which is great news for those who desire large banks of SSD storage. 

While consumer offerings of 1-4TB are impressive, Samsung is capable of delivering larger drives 860 QVO drives in the future, with PCPER discovering that the PCB of Samsung’s 4TB 860 QVO has four vacant flash locations, making an 8TB version of their 860 QVO possible. 

Samsung has not announced an 8TB version of their 860 QVO, though the PCB space for eight QLC flash packages proves that an 8TB option is possible, it not likely. The 1TB version of Samsung’s 860 QVO also has space for an extra flash package, making it likely that the same PCB will be used to create their 2TB 860 QVO drives. 

With their 860 QVO series of drives, Samsung wants to push SSDs as a mass storage option for consumers, offering higher performance levels and lower noise levels than mechanical hard disk drives.
