Sandisk claims the SSD speed crown with its WD_Black SN8100
Sandisk’s hitting the limits of PCIe 5.0 with its WD_Black SN8100 SSD
Sandisk has pushed the performance of its PCIe 5.0 storage solutions to the limit with its WD_Black SN8100 SSD, boasting sequential read speeds op up to 14,900 MB/s. These speeds are the maximum that the PCIe 5.0 interface can reach on M.2 SSDs, giving Sandisk little room for future speed boosts until PCIe 6.0 arrives.
Sandisk is marketing this SSD towards hardcore gamers who demand the fastest storage. This drive uses the company’s BiSC TLC 3D CBA NAND, which enables some of this drive’s performance and power efficiency gains. With its 7W power draw, this PCIe 5.0 SSD will not run as hot as many competing offerings, which is great news for storage enthusiasts.
While its maximum read speeds are 14,900 MB/s, maximum write speeds are slightly slower at 14,000 MB/s. Random speed is also high, with over 2,300,000 IOPS of random read performance (for the 2TB+ models).

Up to 8TB at 14,900 MB/s – The WB_Black SN8100 has both capacity and speed covered
With capacity options up to 8TB planned, Sandisk are offering PC builders ultra-fast speeds and uber-high storage capacities. While many brands are only offering 1Tb and 2TB PCIe 5.0 SSDs, Sandisk are planning to deliver drives up to 8TB in size. 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB versions of the SN8100 are available today. This SSD’s 8TB model will be launching later.
