Apple removes battery time estimates in new Mac OS update

Battery life estimates are often hugely inaccurate, being based on a system's current load and more often than not give users an estimate that is at best vaguely useful and at worst phenomenally inaccurate.

Apple has now removed battery life estimates in a new Mac OS update, allowing users to only see battery capacity as a percentage and not as both a percentage and time estimate.

Conveniently, this update comes after widespread complaints of low battery life on the MacBook Pro, with many users reporting that their Macbook Pro simply cannot offer battery lives of 10 hours when under Apple's advertised "under iTunes film playback and web surfing" loads.  Many users have reported a battery life of as little as 3 hours when under these kinds of workloads, which 7 hours less than Apple advertised.

With Apple heavily marketing their device's battery life a lot of users are understandably disappointed in the MacBook Pro, especially users who opted for versions with the Apple Touchbar. Right now it looks like there are a significant number of additional complaints about versions of the new MacBook Pro which include the device's touch bar, which many blame for the device's low battery life.

Some buyers are blaming these power consumption issues on Apple's use of an AMD Polaris GPU in the system, though, in reality, the problem lies with Apple,  who gave consumers misleading battery life figures for their device.

Right now Apple users can do very little to increase their device's battery life, apart from lowering their display brightness and keeping usage to a minimum.  Those who see this misleading battery life data as a deal-breaker should seek a refund or a replacement from Apple.

This is similar to the game I play with my niece.
If I put my hands over my face, I'm no longer in the room.
If I put my hands over her face, she is now invisible.

Well played Apple. Extremely lacking hardware aside, I don't imagine
any mobile user would EVER want to know how much longer they can work
or view cat videos before the screen winks out.Quote
