BenQ Announces Ultra-portable Joybook Lite U121 Eco
Â
BenQ yesterday added the Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook to its portfolio of products; the new netbook is ultra-portable at just 2.9 pounds and 11.6in. According to the Taiwanese hardware manufacturer, the U121 is an eco-friendly netbook that consumes up to 40% lesser power than earlier systems.
Â
BenQ claims the most attractive features of its new netbook are its environmentally friendly design and components. The netbook is Energy Star certified with 75% of its mechanical and 70% of its packaging materials being fully-recyclable.
Â
The trendy looking U121 features a mercury-free, low-energy LED screen with 1366×768 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Powered by a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, the netbook has 1GB of RAM as standard, with an optional upgrade to 2GB.
Â
BenQ is offering multiple storage options with the chic netbook, which has a 160GB HDD in the basic version. Users can upgrade to any one of the 250GB, 320GB and 500GB unit options and also throw-in an 8GB, 16GB or 32GB SSD for additional storage. This makes the U121 one of the first netbooks to offer both HDD and SSD storage side-by-side.
Â
The manufacturer has provided the netbook with an 802.11 b/g/n WLAN card, a 1.3 megapixel camera, two 2W speakers and VoIP functionality. Bluetooth 2.1 and HSUPA mobile broadband are also available, though as options. The integrated 2-channel SRS TruSurround HD output makes the Joybook Lite U121 Eco an ideal home entertainment hub.
Â
In terms of battery life, the U121 is equipped with a default three-cell battery, which gives it up to three and half hours of battery life. A six-cell, eight hour battery is also available for users who prefer longer working times.
Â
BenQ will be making the Joybook Lite U121 Eco available in China, Malaysia, and Taiwan in June. The company has not revealed pricing details, though it claims the netbook will carry a âpractical price tagâ.
