2023 will be a "recovery year" for the Raspberry Pi platform - Don't expect to see a Raspberry Pi 5 next year
The past few years have been difficult for Raspberry Pi users. The pandemic and the world's chip shortage had disrupted Raspberry Pi development and retail stocks of Raspberry Pi hardware has been spotty for a number of years. In an interview with Explaining Computers, Raspberry Pi CEO Ebon Upton has confirmed that 2023 will be a "recovery year" for the Raspberry Pi platform, and that consumers should not "expect a Pi 5 next year (2023)".
In the latter half of 2023, retail stock of Raspberry Pi boards are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels. That means that Raspberry Pi boards should be a lot more readily available, and that Raspberry Pi can consider creating a Raspberry Pi 5 in 2024.
Ebon Upton stated that it "would really be a disaster would be if we tried to introduce some kind of Raspberry Pi 5 product" in 2023, saying that "if we introduced a Raspberry Pi 5 product and it couldn't ramp properly because of constraints, or if we introduced some Raspberry Pi 5 product and it somehow cannibalized some supply chain element" that a Raspberry Pi 5 would impact the recovery of their older Raspberry Pi products and cause more harm than good.
Upton believes that in 2024 onwards that it would be "sensible" to consider making a new Raspberry 5 platform, as that is when supply chain issues are expected to abate and a new Raspberry Pi could be created in a efficient and cost-effective manner.
The Raspberry Pi 4 is now the longest lived Raspberry Pi platform, having launched in 2019 with no replacement or B series revision since its launch. The Raspberry Pi 5 is expected to feature a lot of hardware upgrades over its predecessor, though at this time it is unknown what changes will be made to this next-generation Raspberry Pi platform. A faster processor and integrated graphics are expected, but beyond that we can only guess at what the Raspberry Pi 5 will offer.

I've been trying to get a CM4 for 6 months and am always looking for another Pi4 at MSRP. Keep missing the in stock alerts though so I really hope stock returns to normal levels soon.

I'm in the same boat, waiting for 2 CM4's one for a router project, one for an NVMe mini web-server.

You haven't missed a stock alert, there is no stock. You could ask Jeff Geerling for one though. He has ALL of them.

Should we raid Geerling's house!?

There has been stock, especially of the Pi4's this week. Last time a CM4 was in stock though was end of October. I backed a home assistant yellow and paid extra to get an included CM4. In November they cancelled the CM4 part. HA Yellow is supposed to ship in January. I ordered the PoE version and it's been delayed multiple times.
