Lenovo Legion Go 2 Leaks – Huge Hardware Upgrades

Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 reportedly has an OLED screen and a new AMD Ryzen SoC

Images of Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 PC handheld have leaked through The Verge, revealing major upgrades for the company’s next-generation gaming device. While the device has the same 8.8-inch screen size as its predecessor, this new handheld appears to have an OLED display. This upgrade should increase motion clarity, deeper blacks, and vibrant colours. HDR support should also be significantly improved.

Sadly, The Verge’s leak did not confirm the specifications of the hardware powering the device. AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme gaming chip will likely power the handheld. If true, this handheld should feature AMD Zen 5 CPU cores and a large RDNA 3.5-based GPU. With 16 RDNA 3.5 compute units instead of 12 RDNA 3 units, Lenovo’s new model should be much faster than its predecessor.

Sadly, battery specifications, memory configuration, and other specifications remain unknown. A larger battery would be a welcome upgrade for this handheld, as battery life is a key weakness for these portable gaming devices. Furthermore, having more memory than the original Legion Go would help its successor run more modern games.

Like its predecessor, the Legion Go 2 still has two removable joy-con-style controllers. Again, one of these controllers can be used as a mouse, giving users a more mouse/keyboard-like gaming experience.

We expect AMD to officially reveal its Ryzen Z2 series of gaming SOCs at CES 2025. We expect Lenovo and other manufacturers to demonstrate new Ryzen-powered gaming handhelds at CES 2025, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come.
