Lenovo Legion Go S leaks with a dedicated “Steam” button

Is Lenovo’s Legion Go S a SteamOS device?

Images of Lenovo’s Legion Go S have leaked onto the web, giving us a glimpse of a mysterious Steam button. The device will reportedly use an AMD Ryzen Z2-series SOC, feature 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, and have an 8-inch 1200p IPS screen.

This leak makes us wonder if the Legion Go S is a SteamOS-powered device.  This would make this device the Legion Go “Steam,” which has many advantages for gamers and Lenovo.

For starters, using SteamOS would lower the cost of this new handheld. After all, Windows keys cost money, and Valve is unlikely to charge for SteamOS. After all, Valve should earn more than enough money from game sales through their Steam storefront.

Currently, the purpose of this device’s Steam button is unknown. It also remains to be seen if the device will have Windows-based and SteamOS-based versions. Alternatively, the Steam button could open Steam on compatible devices. Remember, Valve has branding guidelines for both “Powered by SteamOS,” “Steam Compatible,” and “Steam Included” devices. Perhaps it could be a fast way for Windows handhelds to enter and exit Steam’s “Big Picture” mode.

We expect to see a new wave of AMD-powered PC handhelds at CES 2025. This is when we expect Lenovo to officially reveal their next-generation Legion Go devices.
