LG to reveal Gram series Laptops and 2-in-1s at CES 2019

Thin and light notebook designs are extremely popular these days, packing a lot of raw performance into tiny form factors to create highly portable working systems that take advantage of some of the most efficient hardware available.     

As CES 2019 approaches, LG has announced that their soon to be release Gram series notebooks have won CES 2019 Innovation Awards, thanks to their performance levels, lightweight designs and what they offer to each respective form factor. 

Starting with the Gram 2-in-1, the 14T990-U.AAS8U1, LG is offering users a 14-inch tablet/notebook convertible that delivers users a 1080p IPS touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, a Stylus, 16GB of memory, 512GB of M.2 SATA SSD storage and an Intel i7-8565U processor, which can boost to up to 4.6GHz. 

In total, this hybrid notebook will weigh 1,150 grams, making it lightweight while also meeting the US military MIL-STD-810G standard for durability, which is no small feat for such a lightweight design. 

LG’s Gram 17 (17Z990-R.AAS8U1) takes things up a notch, fitting a 17-inch screen into a 15.6-inch class notebook body, giving the notebook an almost bezel-less design while also meeting the US military MIL-STD-810G standard. This notebook weighs 1,340 grams, making it less than 200G heavier than LG’s 14-inch Gram convertible. 

In terms of hardware specifications, LG’s Gram 17 offers a 17-inch 2560X1440 (16×10) IPS display and the same CPU and storage configuration as the 14-inch 14T990-U.AAS8U1. LG’s Gram 17 has a suggested retail price of $1699.99 in the US.

  
While these high-spec thin and light systems may be out of reach for the average consumer price-wise, it is always great to see OEMs push the limit of what can be fitted into small form factor portable systems.  While they are not ready for modern games or powerful enough for high-end workstation use, they are still able to pack a lot of potential productivity into a weight limit that makes travel easy. Travelling with a heavy laptop can be burdensome, which is why LG’s Gram series is a compelling buy for some users.
