Nintendo Switch 2 sells 3.5 million units in four days, outselling Switch 1

The Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling console in the company’s history

Nintendo has confirmed that over 3.5 million Switch 2 consoles have been sold in the four days following the system’s June 5th release. These worldwide sales outpace those of any previously released Nintendo console, including the original Switch and Wii. With these strong sales, Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling console in Nintendo’s history.

These strong sales are thanks to Nintendo’s strong week-1 supply of Switch 2 consoles and the strong perception of the Switch brand. Nintendo worked hard to ensure that enough Switch 2 consoles were manufactured for launch. Furthermore, the original Switch was/is a good console, and that has given gamers a reason to want its successor. In contrast, the original Switch followed the Wii U, a console that is considered a failure.

Nintendo Co., Ltd. (HQ: Kyoto, Minami-ku, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuntaro Furukawa, “Nintendo” hereafter) announced that its new game system, Nintendo Switch 2, sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in the four days following its release on June 5, 2025*. This is the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days.

Nintendo

Nintendo’s original Switch console has sold over 150 million units. These high sales numbers make Nintendo’s 3.5 million 4-day Switch 2 sales numbers look small by comparison. That said, the original Switch has been available since March 2017, and Switch 2 sales numbers will continue to climb.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 console is selling well, despite its limited launch-day library. That said, Nintendo has unveiled a large number of Switch 2 games that will be released throughout 2025.
